Peace-making

I could show you bodies,

Lying in the dry grass,

Sliced, shot, headless.

But what would be seen?

Better to let you hear

The bewilderment

in a young man’s voice:

“We started something

that we never knew.

So many friends,

so many young people

died.”

Better to show you a man,

Standing,

Face to face with anger and revenge,

And speaking of other ways to live.

  1. That is so moving, and so powerful.
